Children preparing to transfer from their Primary School to Greenfield in September participated in a Summer School to help them gain confidence, make new friends and experience lots of fun educational activities.
The main focus has been literacy and numeracy and supports the Government Transition Programme to secure a good start for the next stage in their education.
The first week began with a trip to Whitby where Learning Outside of the Classroom took on new dimensions.
Imaginations ran wild with the theme of Dracula and numeracy took on an active approach as the steps up to the Abbey took centre stage to encourage interesting ways to grasp mathematical concepts.
A visit to Newcastle Football Stadium was very popular with the boys. Other activities included organising their own mini Olympics, building an Olympic stadium and overcoming problems through Team Work.
Melanie Stubbs Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for Care, Support and Guidance commented upon the scheme and said “it is excellent to see children from different Primary Schools getting on so well together, sharing their ideas and gaining confidence in the skills they need to secure positive futures. I’m sure any fears they had about the move to Secondary school will have disappeared and they are all raring to go”.
