Greenfield Community College has recently been leading on a project continuing some innovative research in educational methods. They have been working with local school partners exploring an exciting creative approach to teaching and learning called ‘SOLES’.
This was developed by Professor Sugata Mitra. Professor Mitra, from Newcastle University, who is a professional who works globally to explore the use of Technology, IT and a student led enquiry.
His methods involve teachers taking a step back from their more traditional role as transmitters of knowledge and students taking a much more active role. They develop their own enquiries in teams and use the internet to explore their curiosity of a subject.
We were delighted to hear that Professor Mitra had recently been awarded the prestigious international TED prize at the conference held in February in California, USA. Greenfield would like to congratulate Professor Mitra and Newcastle University on this fantastic achievement, we are very proud to be involved in this research, and to continue working with Sugata and Newcastle University.
