On Friday 5th October Greenfield Community College were asked to share their current practice with the other winners of the full International Schools Award recognised by the British Council.

56 schools from across the North East were in attendance to receive their prestigious award and the delegates were entertained with a DVD depicting the 19 international projects that Greenfield College is currently undertaking.

Assistant headteacher Stuart Dixon said the work has enabled children at the college to become more outward looking individuals who are keen to explore the world around them. Mr Dixon also spoke about working in partnership and how the links forged with schools in this country as well as those further afield is a real benefit to the school and has impacted on improvements in attainment and standards.

The college has been approached to share their international experiences with schools new to international work, through Durham Education Authority.

The delegates were  also entertained by the chief starter for the Olympic and Paralympic games, Alan Bell who shared many accounts of his travels around the globe starting international athletic events.

This included a fabulous tale about the time that Mr Bell had to disqualify the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt.
