Greenfield Community College held their annual Presentation of  Awards Evening and Celebration of Achievements, to the Class of 2016, on Thursday 3rd November. The Guest of Honour was local celebrity Dr. R. McManners OBE who presented the awards and gave a truly inspirational talk to the past students who had returned to the college to collect their awards and receive a final farewell. It was an emotional occasion as teachers paid tribute to the nominees before announcing
the selected winner. Greenfield recorded its best grades ever in 2016 and the sense of pride in the achievement of the students was palpable. Photos of the young people were shown on a large screen when they first entered Greenfield as Year 7 students, and to see them walk up to the stage grown up and confident, gave everyone a warm feeling, with hope for continued success in their chosen careers. Before the awards ceremony members of the College Dance class gave a spectacular performance based on the Pit Painter Norman Cornish whose Exhibition is currently running in the Greenfield Gallery. The school has some connection with the artist, who died recently, as his sonin-law Mike Thornton was the previous Head Teacher at Greenfield. Mike was present to see his own award for Outdoor and Adventurous Activities presented to  Sophie Hayes. It was a pleasant evening when teachers, parents and students became steeped in nostalgia, making a happy and final goodbye to past students on a truly memorable community occasion.
