Students at Greenfield Community College achieved great results as they were awarded 3 silvers and 13 bronzes in this year’s UKMT Junior Maths Challenge.
Over 260,000 students from across the UK sat the Junior Maths Challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and the next 21% bronze.
The Junior Maths Challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and supported by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. The Challenge contest, aimed at those in Year 7 and 8, took place within school and students were keen to rise to the challenge.
Congratulations to Year 7 student Sophie Capstack who was best in her year and to Year 8 student Declan McAnaney who was the best overall competitor across the whole school. Subject Specialist, Amanda Hender, was full of praise for the students, “Its really challenging Maths and fantastic they did so well”.
The UK Mathematics TrustMT organises national mathematics competitions for UK Secondary students. “The Maths challenges provide material to provoke students’ mathematical thinking and test their problem-solving skills in an accessible and yet challenging way.
