Greenfield Community College has gone enterprise mad through the month of March. Students from all year groups had the chance to take part in the Tenner Challenge, a national campaign encouraging young people to be enterprising.
The Tenner Challenge is for young people who want to get a taste of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. It gives them a chance to think of a new business idea and make it happen, using real money to take risks in the business field, make a profit – and make a difference.
Students at Greenfield were asked to work together to come up with a great business idea, across a wide range of areas of the world of work, and create a business plan to pitch. The most enterprising ideas were given £10 as start-up capital to use throughout March in order to make a profit and benefit the local community.
At the end of the month, after making and selling products including cakes, personalised jewellery, art, and even personalised Easter eggs, the finances were tallied and each group returned their £10 initial investment to the Tenner Bank, plus a £1 donation to continue the legacy of the project.
The students at Greenfield made amazing profit and some are now deciding to contribute some of their earnings to local charities. This is a great opportunity for our business minded Greenfield students to learn more about the world of business and raise their future aspirations. Mrs Robson, who worked with the students in school said: “Watch this space…the next Alan Sugar is at Greenfield!” Well done to all!
