Greenfield College’s Youth Dance Group ‘Grounded’ were invited to perform in the Gateshead Schools Dance Festival on Tuesday 18th March, at Sage Gateshead. This was a fantastic opportunity for the talented Greenfield dancers to showcase their hard work to other schools and people from across the region.
The students: Charlotte Hugill, David Hugill, Ami Henderson, Tira Sperring, Isabelle Street, Samantha Clark and Sophie Hayes, have been rehearsing once a week with Performing Arts teacher Mrs Etherington and have worked really hard perfecting the piece ready for touring.
The dance piece is about searching for inner happiness and uses props to emphasize meaning and add interest. The piece is called ‘Gaudium’ which is the Latin word for joy and happiness.
This is just one of many opportunities students have the chance to be a part of through the Performing Arts department at Greenfield, alongside fantastic drama and music opportunities made available to students both in school and as extra-curricular activities. Opportunities to perform in regional and national venues like the Sage gives real value to the hard work of the students and staff.
The pupils involved in “Grounded” thoroughly enjoyed performing at the Sage and are looking forward to their next performances including the Gala Theatre in Durham, Newton Aycliffe Dance Festival and Slide – Greenfield wishes them the best of luck!
