Through the work developed by Arts organisation Greenfield Arts, Greenfield Community College have been extending the campaign ‘The Power of Words’ to raise aspirations and develop their skills through creative learning. The project has been a great success at Greenfield Community College and has produced a young people’s own publication ‘From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary’. The young people and commissioned artists involved are now expanding the reach by sharing the approach with other schools in the region.
Greenfield Arts commissioned writer and film-maker Laura Degnan who has made a recent visit to Bishop Barrington School, Bishop Auckland, to deliver a workshop. This gave even more students an opportunity to take part in the inspirational activities aimed to help them to be the best they can be and reach their full potential.
This activity has been informed by Laura’s recent work at Greenfield Community College where students have worked together through a project supported by Michael Chaplin, GAMP and developed by Greenfield Arts.
The recent workshop was a great success, Katy Milne, Director of Greenfield Arts, was thrilled with the occasion and the response of the students, “we are so pleased to be able to share the work of the young people to inspire other young people. It was wonderful to see the students at Bishop Barrington sharing their gold medal moments and realising, through the activities writer Laura Degnan facilitated, the extraordinary skills and talents they each have”. A very big thank you to Bishop Barrington for hosting the workshop.
