Greenfield Community College now serves two communities, the Aycliffe campus take students from Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding area, whilst the Sunnydale campus offers services to Shildon families and the surrounding area.  Both campuses are going from strength to strength.
The two campuses allow Greenfield students and their communities’ access to a range of quality sports facilities (including athletics at the Sunnydale campus) and 2015 has seen Greenfield’s athletes excel.   The under 14 girls finished 2nd to Barnard Castle recently, when the ten South West Durham Schools came together for a Year 9 interschool event. At the same event the boys from Greenfield finished in 4th place, a fantastic achievement for both teams.
This great season has seen six of the school’s athletics records broken to date, and with more events to come this may increase!
Christina Shodunke broke the Year 9 girls Long Jump record set over 20 years ago in 1991 by Joy Halford (4.47m) when she jumped 4.54m to gain a place in the county finals.
Courtney Mills broke the Year 11 girls 200m record set over 30 years ago by Paula Wigham (28sec), with a fantastic time of 26.99secs, to also gain a place in the county finals.
Adam Lamb broke the 100m record set by Georgie El Hakim (12.1) in 1990, with his time of 11.81 sec.  Adam is through to the County finals in the Triple Jump, where he is chasing the school record set by Ross Dodds in 2001 of 10.95m.
Other school records broken this year include the Year 7 800m record (set in 2003 by Simon Hewitson of 2min 32.5sec) by Aiden Ord, who gained a time of 2min 21.9 sec in a recent club event, plus the Year 9 4×100 girls & boys relay records.
An amazing start to the 2015 season!  Good luck to the Greenfield athletes, who will compete in the County finals at Monkton in June, and well done to Joy, Paula, Georgie and Simon for holding their records for as long as they did!
