Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School have started the year in celebration after winning the School Games Mark Platinum Award. In doing so, they have proudly become the first school in the Sedgefield Sports Partnership (SSP) to achieve this amazing accreditation.

The School Games Mark Platinum Award is the highest accolade in the School Games Mark. It was introduced in 2017 to reward schools who have maintained consistently high standards with their school sport provision. In order to even be considered for the prestigious Platinum Award, schools must first have achieved five successive gold awards. Stephenson Way Academy had to submit detailed case studies to support their application, which was backed up with a supporting reference by the SSP.

Miss Whitfield, who leads PE and Sport at Stephenson Way Academy, explained, “This award acknowledges the commitment to sport that we have demonstrated for a long time now. We are proud to provide every child in school with opportunities to develop their sporting ability in a wide range of sporting activities such as football, gymnastics, dance, new age kurling, boccia and swimming to name a few. With a whole host of after school clubs and both competitive and non-competitive festivals to attend, there truly is a sport where everyone can shine and showcase their talent.”

On behalf of the Sedgefield Sports Partnership, Sarah Price told us, “We were delighted to support the platinum application on behalf of Stephenson Way Academy and thrilled to see their hard work and dedication to sport recognised with this award.”
