Friends of West Park held their AGM at the Royal British Legion club on Tuesday 10th February.
The only change to the management team was the succession of Alf Tomlin to the role of Vice Chair where he is expected to bring new vigour to the position.
Chairman Ken Robson remarked “It has been a great first year and the Friends can be very proud of progress made, We begin our second year in a positive financial position and with lots of proposals and projects to pursue.”
Working alongside volunteers and in collaboration with other organisations we believe the park has a bright future, building on improvements made in our first year, litter picking, cleaning out the lakes and planting bulbs.
It is hoped that in partnership with Great Aycliffe Town Council, livin, Mears and others that walkways can be installed to provide viewing areas, and also playgrounds.
Members called on the public to help eradicate dog poo from the park where the Friends aim is to encourage more families to visit and take part in recreational pursuits.
As winter releases its icy grip on the park, bulbs planted in 2014 should be showing signs of new life in the coming weeks. As trees become proudly dressed with leaves it is expected that the numbers of visitors will increase to view this beautiful transformation.
Ducks and geese will be looking forward to entertaining a new army of people coming along to feed them. If anyone would like to get involved in our activities please contact Chairman Ken Robson on 01325 321471 or Secretary Arun Chandrun on 01325 313224
