George and Mary Lee of Washington Crescent received a visit from the Mayor Mary Dalton on the occasion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 19th March.
The couple who have no children have occupied their bungalow for the whole 50 years having arrived in the town after being married in 1966.
Mary comes from Darlington and George was born in Close House. They met at Remploy where they both worked on producing pattern books for Paton & Baldwins.
Mary had previous jobs as a Seamstress carrying out work for Polam Hall School and Alexanders at Faverdale.
Before becoming disabled George worked at Black & Decker for 10 years and he retired for health reasons in 1976.
George and Mary both enjoy music. Mary is an accomplished pianist and enjoys knitting.
There will be a family reunion of around 50 people to celebrate their anniversary at Burtree Inn this weekend.
