As part of the ongoing ‘Global Classrooms’ project at Woodham Academy, primary school teachers from across Newton Aycliffe were recently invited to a bespoke training event aimed at connecting more local schools to others around the world.
The event, backed by the education team at the Skype headquarters in London, built on exciting projects that have already taken place in the classrooms at Woodham. The primary school teachers were taken through all of the steps to get their classrooms connected to other classrooms across the globe and engage in exciting projects of their own. The event even included a live Skype link up to a homeless children’s school in the USA to demonstrate its huge potential.
Jon Tait, Assistant Head Teacher at Woodham Academy said ‘In today’s digital world we all have a duty to develop our students into global citizens who can communicate effectively with people from across the globe.
With more and more businesses engaging with customers internationally, it is important that we ensure our students are ready to compete with people across the world for jobs in these multi-national companies and organisations.’
Other lessons involving Skype as part of the Global Classrooms project at Woodham have included live fitness and dance lessons with a school in America, careers lessons with human resources executives from the Skype headquarters in London and question and answer sessions with former students working for top companies around the world.
