Dear Sir,
One of the issues faced by Town and Parish Councils is the lack of representation which reflects the diversity in their communities, which is important to ensure all voices are heard, all perspectives are given, and our councils are truly democratic.
The Local Government Association stats show that our U.K councils have a bias towards being dominated by older, retired people. This has its advantages in the wealth of experience and knowledge older people can bring to the role, but it is impoverished by the lack of passion, new ideas and enthusiasm young people can provide. Balance is what is needed. So when the average age of a Town Councillor in the UK is 60, and that increases by a good decade on our own Town Council, it is refreshing to see a candidate standing who is offering to speak for the young people of our town, to set an example of how, by engaging with our democratic systems, young voices can be heard.
Brandon Fleet is standing for Labour in the Woodham Ward by-election. Brandon is an intelligent young man who has demonstrated real potential. He is willing to learn, he is willing to listen to the people he represents, rather than the other candidates who already think they know everything.
They say the future belongs to the young, so let’s give our young people a say in what our town will look like, and Vote for Brandon Fleet in the Woodham Ward by-election.
