Woodham Academy opened its doors to parents last week as the school hosted a Year 11 ‘Getting the Grades’ Information Evening. It was great to see a hall full of parents and students who visited a series of workshops and talks held by the school staff.
The purpose of the evening was to support students in preparing for Year 11 and GCSE examinations, and parents in terms of how to support their child. Sessions included effective revision techniques and dealing with time management. There was also the opportunity to explore new technology known as GCSE Pod, a subject specific software designed to enhance revision.
The Academy hopes to build on its summer examination success, where 32% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate, one of the highest in the county. This was the first in a series of information evenings aimed at providing information for parents as students progress through Year 11.
