Couldn’t agree more with Terry Spellman’s letter in last week’s Newton News regarding the Garden Waste Fee Increase. How can the council justify an increment of 50% over 3 years, especially when annual inflation over this same period is approximately 2%?
Where I possibly disagree with Mr Spellman is in the reason for this increase, my belief is either incompetence by the authorities when first setting the rate 3 years ago or more likely it’s a simple case of the ratepayer once again being used as a cash cow.
