A group of dedicated, local volunteers have brought their idea to reality, successfully establishing a Garden Guild at the Clarence Chare allotments in Newton Aycliffe. Over the last 2 years the group have successfully applied for and have been awarded funding which has enabled them to set to work on the project.
The group have worked with a number of funding partners to secure the future of the project, these include Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership, Livin, Brightwater and the Catherine Cookson Fund. Local County Councillor Jim Atkinson has also supported the group with his Neighbourhood Budget to ensure the group are in the best position moving forward.
The focus of the project is to inspire people to engage in gardening and learn how to do so in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. The group are now in a position to begin work at the site, with plans of a local community shop, community events, crafts, talks and demonstrations all in the pipeline, with the aim of having the facility up and running by Spring 2024.
To ensure its success and on-going sustainability the group are always keen to welcome volunteers and additional help, if you are interested in volunteering, please contact 07340 606402.
