The basketball season started at Woodham Academy with the news that Year 10 student Ryan Harris has again been selected for the North East Regional squad to compete in the England Basketball National Under 15 Tournament at Leeds Metropolitan University during the last weekend in September.
Ryan follows in the footsteps of a significant number of students from Woodham Academy who have achieved this honour and he will be hopeful of impressing the England National team coaching staff who use the tournament to identify talent to make up the England squad.
Ryan’s achievement is a particularly special due to the fact that he is a year younger than a lot of others who will be competing. In addition to the regional competition, Ryan will be representing Durham Wildcats in the England Basketball National League where again, he will be ‘a year young’.
Woodham Academy con-tinues their working relationship with Durham Wildcats and current player and former Newcastle Eagle Joel Madourie is confirmed as the coach who will work alongside Woodham Deputy Headteacher and Wildcat coach Danny Morgans during the forthcoming season.
