21-year-old Jade Pateman, born in Newton Aycliffe was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May and was told she only had two years to live. Despite this awful news this brave young mother’s thoughts turned to her two-year-old son Oscar and other young women who might be at risk of the same disease.
She set up a petition on change.org calling for the minimum screening age to be lowered from 25 to 20 in order to catch this disease before it is too late.
“Jade and Oscar’s Angels” is a charity set up two months ago by friend Tammy Allinson. Her son Callum Nicholson (12 years old) designed the website and facebook page.
Jade’s plight has touched the hearts of everyone and last Saturday an event to raise funds was held at the Youth & Community Centre. Money has been raised by Imelda Woods who made and sold key chains raising over £200, Stu Furlonger Personal Trainer ran a Boot Camp and donated funds, Chubby Brown tickets have been auctioned and a BBQ all to raise funds for the charity.
The Youth and Community Centre was donated after the previous venue had double booked. A collection was taken for them and they donated it back to the charity. Organiser Tammy Allinson said: “All the staff were fantastic, very helpful and their kindness was overwhelming. The chairman Vince is such a generous man. We cannot thank them enough.
We also want to thank everyone who sold raffle tickets and made generous donations to our raffle and auction. We had 68 prizes and the items we had donated for our raffle are brilliant (1 being an overnight stay at Redworth Hall with use of facilities and a mini treatment – Deb Taylor from Ferryhill won this and is over the moon.). We have fantastic items for Auction Night. To name a few we have a 400 pound pizza oven, Cheryl Cole signed perfume, a year Netflick’s subscription, Prada perfume. Eileen Pateman has secured signed donations from Ricky Gervais, John Bishop and Jason Mamford. Helen Pateman-Patrick has secured some fab donations for both the raffle and auction one being a signed “strictly” programme. Yvonne Claude and Jessica Pateman have also worked hard securing donations for both raffle and auction.
The fun day was a huge success to say it is the first time we have ever organised anything like this. It was an excellent team effort by family, friends and kind people who were touched by Jade’s story. The time donated by people who helped was very, very generous and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in selling raffle tickets, securing donations and helping out on the day”.
