Season of chillers set in spooky surrounds will scare even the most hardened horror fans A cinematic experience more immersive than any 3D blockbuster will thrill film fans this summer when a season of scary movies is unleashed in Hamsterley Forest and further afield. Needless to say, the feint-hearted should think twice before attending.

Working with the Forestry Commission, Picnic Cinema organisers, Eden Arts have carefully selected horror films and shocking thrillers befitting the fearful forest surroundings to create a unique cinematic experience that will be remembered long after the credits have finished.

This year’s screening at Hamsterley is a camping event – where filmgoers set up camp before the films begin and can enjoy a whole night of fun, feasting and fright – a good night’s sleep is hardly guaranteed after the cinematic terrors of the evening.

Dress up and grab a drink from the ‘horse box bar’ but expect some surprises and unusual goings on. Zombie runs, edible insects and themed quizzes and prizes are all part of the entertainment.

Adrian Lochhead, Director of Eden Arts and Picnic Cinema said “The forest screenings last year were an absolute highlight;  it’s just the maddest idea we have had to take a huge cinema screen and plonk it down in the middle of nowhere and show classic films.

The audience response last year was fantastic, I think everyone realizes that it’s something special, an opportunity to do something that is really out of the ordinary.  That we will also be camping in some of the forests this year is an amazing development – particularly when you consider the films that go with that camping!!”
