The new community organisation “Friends of West Park” will be holding a meeting at the Royal British Legion Club on April 15th at 7pm.
Whether a keen user of the park, dog walker, or merely interested in improving this jewel in Newton Aycliffe, we would love to see you.
Officers of Great Aycliffe Town Council are expected to attend the meeting and give a presentation on the park including improvements which they would like to make, and to listen to members of the public making their suggestions.
Friends of West Park wish to work with our Town Council attracting where possible funding from other sources than the public purse, to enhance our fantastic piece of the country in the centre of town.
Wednesday 20th of March saw a group of friends supporting council officers Steve Cooper and Chrissie Walton planting bluebells and snowdrops in the park. Although a windy evening a good sized group of enthusiasts turned out to support the work including children.
Wonderful to see parents and youngsters using the lakes for sailing boats as captured by Councillor Chandran in his picture published in last week’s Newton News. Whatever became of the club that used the lakes in yesteryear? Wouldn’t it be great to revive it, innocent pastimes which encourage magical family time?
I look forward to meeting and hearing the views of all residents of Great Aycliffe who attend the get-together.
