Through Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership, the Foundation of Light have been successful in obtaining funding to continue the delivery of their programmes across the GAMP area.
Funding secured through County Councillors Neighbourhood Budget, Youth Fund and Area Budget has ensured schools and local residents continue to receive the community programmes delivered by the Foundation.
Working in three local primary schools, the Foundation of Light deliver the ‘Tackle It’ programme. This programmes focus is around the importance of living a healthy life, whilst also building on key skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication. A dedicated coach delivers 30 minutes of various classroom activities, then 30 minutes of physical activity to pupils.
To date the Foundation have successfully engaged over 90 young people. They will focus on engaging with a new group of schools after the summer break.
The Foundation of Light are also delivering their Family Learning programme across the GAMP area. Engaging with 2 primary schools to date, the programme supports the development of family relationships and encourages parents and grandparents to spend quality time with their family members. The two hour sessions look to educate learners on topics such as healthy living, Functional Skills and Enterprise, focussing on fun activities and games for everyone to take part in.
The GAMP funded Kicks programme also delivered by the Foundation of Light, currently offers football coaching session on Monday evenings at Greenfield School for 8-12 and 13-19 year olds. Sessions aim to engage young people in a positive manner using the power of football; learners build key skills such as teamwork and communication whilst enjoying a kick-about in a fit for purpose environment.
The Foundation of Light have seen great progress across the GAMP area with the partners they have and are currently working with.
