The new season for the football club started with the girls on Saturday, first up the under 11 girls at their central venue starting their first season of competitive football playing local rivals Bishop Auckland St Marys and Lumley Girls.

Both these teams have played for a couple of season, but the girls battled for every ball and a resolute defence and excellent goal keeping give us 2 excellent 0-0 draws. Our under 13 girls had no fixture this week but our under 16 travelled North to play Lumley a close first half saw the hosts leading 1-0, our girls carried on battling but with no subs to call on it was Lumley who finished the strongest winning the game 5-0.

It was over to the boys on Sunday for their opening league games, the Under 7’s at home to Darlington Spraire and Under 8 away to the same club. Both our teams played some excellent football in a positive manner and continue to improve in this non competitive competition with no results being published. The emphasis is on learning the game without being driven by results, which is totally embraced by the football club.

Competition started for under 9s but our Eagles had a week off so it was over to our Falcons v Darlington TSC and took a little while for the boys to get a grip of the game but with a marked improvement in the second half the lads ran out winners 3-1, goals from Scott 2 and Edwards 1. The under 10 Falcons also have to wait till next week to start their season so it was centre stage for our under 10 Eagles at home to a very strong Darlington TSC.

The lads worked hard and had several good efforts but it wasn’t their day with TSC eventually running out winners. The under 11’s travelled to Billingham Synthonia for the first ever 11 a side game. The sun was blazing down but the boys got off to a flier with a goal from Shaw. The pressure continued from Aycliffe but outstanding work from the host keeper kept the lads at bay. Billingham then built up the pressure scoring 2 quick goals. The lads were now chasing for an equaliser but conceded a third on the counter attack final score 3-1.

Our under 12’s were in County Cup action and had the long travel to Ryton & Crawcrook playing on a pitch the size of wembley on a red hot day the lads started brightly but a penalty to the hosts made it 1-0 at half time. The lads now needed to start playing football and they obliged matching their opponents in every department. 2 goals from Bird, one a well struck penalty and one from Breckon saw the lads secure a great 3-1 win.

No games for either our Under 13 Eagles or Falcons so over to our under 14’s who were promoted last season, travelled to Teesside to play Brinkburn. The lads had a perfect start with a convincing 7-1 win. A hat trick from Gash, was backed up by Barras, McWaters, Dawson and Samuels.

The under 15 were at home v Boro Rangers and they kicked off the season in style  with goals from Mitchell 5, Nicholls 4, Dobinson, Fitzgerald and Banner to run out winners 12-3

The Under 16’s, another of our promoted sides took on a strong North Ormesby. The lads had several chances to take the lead but eventually scored just before half time. This was followed early in the second half. The game and the points were secured with a 3rd goal. Whitfield 2, Wilson 1, final score 3-0. For more information about the football club visit
