The final round of the Teesside Karting Sprint Series turned out to be a damp squib for Scarlet Whitaker Dunn due to misfortune and mechanical issues.
It was hoped the apparent lack of power, that had plagued her kart for the last round had been cured with the changes, but that wasn’t to be.
Scarlet was competing in the highly competitive Honda Cadet 200cc class with 25 fellow competitors from all over the country!
With horrendous wet conditions, better suited to powerboat racing, Scarlet started off well in the morning warm up putting in the 7th fastest lap time. However, her fortune was to change throughout the rest of the day, with setbacks and a drying track making it more difficult to move through the field in the heats due to her lack of pace, which seemed to worsen lap by lap. So, unfortunately, the final result didn’t reflect her skill, determination and enthusiasm.
“Scarlet showed such determination throughout the weekend despite issues with the kart, showing it is making her into a stronger person and never to give up regardless,” said Mam.
We all enjoyed the Teesside Owner Drivers Sprint end of year firework display and Scarlet secured 13th place out of 48 registered in the 2023 Teesside Karting Sprint Series, despite not doing all of the championship rounds.
“I have learnt much again this weekend, as well as having a fun time with friends,” Scarlet said, “I really look forward to competing in a full season next year.”
We would like to thank Amaron Racing, PHM (Peninsula Historic Motorsport), Veterans Motorsport UK, Grandad Ron and Rob Storey for their generous assistance and financial support, making this possible.
