Congratulations to Josh the winning captain of the A.F. Hardy inter-association trophy final. Bishop Auckland schools had a very tricky path to the final, beating Stockton 5-1 in round 1 and a nail biting 4-3 victory against Middlesbrough in round 2. The semi-final was against North Tyneside and the 1-0 win secured a place in the final. The final was played at Dunston United AFC on Thursday 27th April against a very strong Newcastle side who had previously only lost once in their last 18 games. Newcastle started the brighter with Bishop Auckland schools defending bravely and Josh did many goal saving sliding tackles to keep the score 0-0. The best chance went to Bishop who should have made it 1-0 just before the break but the goal keeper did a great save from a 1v1.
Bishop schools started the second half brightly putting more and more pressure on Newcastle and they scored a great goal which was well deserved to make it 1-0. With Newcastle looking for the equaliser Josh was kept busy at centre back but kept resolute with many towering headers and blocks to keep Bishop Schools in the lead. With 10 minutes to go, Bishop schools scored a great goal on the break to make it 2-0. Greenfield School would once again like to congratulate all the boys selected to make up this fantastic U/13 team and especially Josh who captained the team to a magnificent victory, commenting “What a great set of lads, despite getting dominated in the first half, we kept our heads up and came out brighter, well done lads!.”
