Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre is to host an event with a Paralympic Athlete who is now sitting in the House of Lords
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE DL will be the guest speaker at an event to be held in Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre on a date to be announced.
Chairman Vince Crosby met Baroness Grey Thompson at an event in Durham and she inspired him so much he invited her to NAYCC which she accepted.
Her sporting achievements are many but she obtained 11 Gold medals in 5 Paralympic games with 2 world records. On the World Circuit she obtained 5 Golds 4 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals.
Her distinctions include being awarded the MBE in 1992 the OBE in 2000. In 2001 Tanni was voted the “UK Sporting Hero” by Sport UK and in 2003 was inducted to the BWSF Hall of Fame, 2004 BBC Sports Personality of the Year (also 1992, 2000), 2005 was awarded Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2010 she was appointed to the House of Lords as a crossbench peer.
Vince Crosby said the chance of having such a high powered person to visit Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre is a great achievement and should not to be missed.
