W. Slater & Sons butchers in the Thames Centre is celebrating 30 years in business on 11th November and to mark this occasion they are offering all of their customers the chance to win their Christmas dinner! For every purchase throughout November you will be given a raffle ticket which will be put into a draw and the winner announced at the beginning of December. The prize will consist of a turkey crown, sausage meat, streaky bacon, and all of the usual traditional vegetables plus stuffing, all you need to do is collect and cook it! The winner will be announced in the shop window and on Facebook, this is a great prize and won’t be repeated for another 30 years! Bill Slater the proprietor began his career as a butcher when he left school at 15 years old and joined Dewhirst. He served his apprenticeship and qualified as a Master Butcher. At the age of 30 he opened the shop with his ex business partner which was then called Thames Butchers, now he is joined by two of his sons, Lee who is also a butcher and Billy whose passion in life is baking, especially bread. Bill’s wife, Carole does the accounts and deliveries, so it’s a proper family concern. A lot of things have changed in the intervening years, everything is now made freshly on the premises, no bought in pies or delicatessen. Sausages are one of Lee’s specialities and he often experiments with different flavours, and Billy does likewise with his delicious bread. The business has weathered many storms over the last 30 years, but thanks to it’s loyal customers is able to enjoy this special day and would like to thank them all by giving them the chance to win this super prize.
