Dear Sir,
I read the article in a recent edition (4-10-24) about ‘Labour is Failing Pensioners and Tax Payers’. This article appears to be fake news!
If I do a quick check on the numbers I get the following answers from Microsoft AI Copilot:
@The 6.8% increase in public sector pensions is expected to cost taxpayers approximately £3.1 billion annually’ not the £208 billion stated in the article.
‘The total cost of public service pensions in the UK is substantial. For the financial year 2023-24, the net spending on unfunded public sector pensions is expected to be £7.9 billion’ not the £5trillion stated in the article.
‘According to the latest Fraud and Error in the Benefit System report for the financial year ending 2023, the estimated amount of benefit fraud in the UK was £8.3 billion’ not £219 billion stated in the article.
Not that I like Kier Starmer, Labour, or their policies’ but fake news is not helping anyone. My apologies if my quick checks are incorrect’ but they do cite the same sources as the article.
