Dear Sir,
For all those people opposed to the mandatory obligation to now wear face masks in shops from 24th July, for me it couldn’t come too soon and I fully support it.
Our shop assistants and supermarket staff have been the least protected members of society right from the start of this pandemic. To me they are absolute heroes for going to work every day without any protection whatsoever. I was so relieved for them when eventually their risk was acknowledged, and screens were installed at the check-outs.
I would also like these people who are complaining, to realise how much safer vulnerable people will feel in public. I was horrified to visit Tesco after 9pm last Saturday and to see that all the arrows etc. have now been removed. When left to their own ‘common sense’ unfortunately some people behave as though coronavirus no longer exists.
The government definitely left it too late to introduce this measure, but I feel we will most certainly benefit from the compulsory wearing of face masks as wintertime approaches. Coronavirus spreads much more quickly in colder conditions and hopefully the wearing of these masks will prevent us from also passing on other respiratory infections to each other, such as bronchitis, influenza, etc.
How difficult is it to wear a face mask for a little while? It is the least we can do to protect each other. I have no issues with it whatsoever.
Yours Sincerely
Audrey Wallis
