A group of year 7 gifted and talented students from Greenfield Community College took part in an all-day challenge recently, in which they utilised their existing scientific, mathematical and creative skills as individuals to work as part of a team to form a business that creates a new clothing product.
The challenge, devised by teachers at Greenfield Community College, Mr Henderson, Mr Spenceley and Miss Craggs, encouraged students to use their analytical skills to digest data about product costs and create a business plan with a breakdown of their fixed and variable costs with predicted profits for the future.
In order to fund their business idea students had to raise funds from a variety of sources, such as a sponsor, a venture capitalist and a bank manager by considering the needs of each source and the potential positive and negative impacts each could have in relation to their own business.
Students completed their initiative prototypes and their business financial plans were of such detail that any accountant would have been pleased. At the end of the day each team pitched their business to Mrs Gibbs.
Each and every one of the students involved were a credit to Greenfield and this activity allowed these students to come into their element.
So watch out for our next generation of entrepreneurs!
