A group of students from Woodham Academy have been taking part in the LSIS Engineering Challenge. Four groups of year 8 students were given the task to design and manufacture a wind turbine to produce green energy. The challenge took place over 6 weeks at South West Durham Training Ltd, where the turbine was manufactured. In the final challenge local schools went head to head testing their turbines for appearance and efficiency. Woodham took first place in the challenge overall by having their turbines produce a considerable amount more energy than all the other schools.
Mr. Lumb, Deputy Headteacher said “This was a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their design and engineering skills. I was really proud of their achievement.”
