Dear Editor, We are so used to voting in shows like the ‘X factor’ and ‘Big Brother’ it often seems that political elections are now conducted in a similar vein with personality put before substance. The fact is that, the age, personality or private life of a candidate is not as important as the platform they are standing on in a national election, with national issues at stake, which then can have massive impact locally. If the Tory party are elected again, they will have a mandate to fully impose their cruel and indifferent ideology on the people of the UK.

We have seen in their current manifesto they intend to cut free school meals, take homes away from the elderly to pay for care they have already worked all their lives to pay for, they will continue to hit the hard working and the vulnerable to pay for tax breaks for the highest earners. They will continue to throw our money at the top 5% claiming it will ‘trickle down’, when in reality, it is blown away into off shore accounts and stagnates in property portfolios.

They are even making the repeal of the fox hunting ban a greater priority than tackling the huge rise in child poverty and homelessness. They have already tripled the national debt. Labour’s radical new and modern manifesto will invest in the roots of society, investing in the NHS and care services, building houses, nationalizing the railways, protecting our environment and wild life, making sure our children get a hot meal each day AND a free education, so they can reach their full potential.

Those strong roots will grow a stable, balanced and sustainable economy, from which we all will benefit, not just a few. This election is an opportunity for real change nationally. Be positive, act positively, Vote Labour for a new, fairer and better future for all. You can read the manifesto online at http://www.labour.org.uk
