Labour is fielding it’s best candidates for the Election in West Ward to be held on Thursday 4th May, one of which is Martin Ashcroft. Martin was born and bred in Newton Aycliffe, He is aged 43, a hard working family man and father of five children. Martin lives in the West Ward and he is a time served Motor Vehicle Technician with over 27 years’ experience and self-employed since 1996.
Martin has a taxi business in Darlington 1.A.B. Taxis. He is a member of the Management Committee of Great Aycliffe Resident’s Association and also The Friends of West Park group and regularly attends meetings. He is a very active and goes out litter picking in and around West Park Boating Lakes every Sunday with other volunteers. Martin helped clean the Lakes out and was active in the ‘Save our Fireworks Group’ which successfully persuaded the Town Council to bring back the display. If elected again Martin will continue to be a dedicated attender and contribute fully to Council Meetings.
Martin is a moderate and progressive candidate; young with integrity and ability. Cllr Bob Fleming Labour Leader on Great Aycliffe Town Council said “ Since being elected in a By-election in July 2015, Martin has proved to be an exemplary Councillor working very hard on your behalf and I see him as a future Leader of this Council.” Martin said: “As soon as I was elected I put myself forward to be on the committees to represent the interests of residents in West Ward: Environment, Recreation, Policy and Resources.
I am involved in the Festival Working Group, Audit SubCommittee, Personal SubCommittee and became the Councils’ representative on the Crime and Community Safety Task Group. I am a regular attender at all meetings and this will continue if elected again.
