Dear Sir,
Many thanks to Mrs Hunter who solved the puzzle of the Eagle as the emblem of Vane Road School. I appreciate her taking the time and trouble to answer.

Why is it a Bald Eagle, a North American species which, except in zoos, does not occur in Britain? We have two resident eagles; the White Tailed Eagle (largest European), sometimes called the Sea Eagle and nick-named the ‘Flying Barn Door’ because of the size of its wings; the Golden Eagle (second largest European Eagle). We also have a summer visitor, the Osprey, which comes over from Africa to breed in Britain in ever increasing numbers.
