Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club were back in action last weekend at Freeman’s Quay Pool in Durham at Durham City Aquatics Club’s ‘(Not the) Valentine Gala’. Normally the competition would be held close to 14th February but pool issues meant it had to be moved.
Five swimmers set out to compete for medals and times and all came back with medals and personal bests.
Charlotte Lee beat her PB in five out of five events; 50m backstroke and butterfly, a big 100m IM PB and took bronze and gold in 100m and 200m breaststroke.
Jessica Bell swam six events, taking five golds and a silver. Silver was in 100m freestyle while the golds were in 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as 100m breaststroke and 200m IM. PB’s were set in five of them with over four seconds off her best 100m breaststroke time, the standout swim.
Niamh Renton had a 100% PB return in her four events, taking bronze in 50m and 100m backstroke and placing highly in 100m IM and 200m backstroke, in which she beat her entry time by ten seconds.
Aviana Wilson set new bests in four events, in 50m and 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle and over two seconds in 100m IM. The 200m events were big improvements on entry times and Aviana won gold and bronze in 50m and 100m backstroke.
Evie Weston beat her PB in five out of six events with big improvements in 100m IM and 400m freestyle. She picked up golds in 50m and 100m backstroke and silver in 200m freestyle as well as a solid swim in 800m freestyle.
Overall it was an incredible PB return with 23 out of 28 swims collectively, the result of a lot of hard work in training for which they can all be proud.
