Two Year 9 students from Woodham Academy were nominated by their Head of Year for the Dux Award 2013. Corin Lathan and Victoria Archer were nominated as a result of their outstanding academic achievement.
This is the second annual Dux Award organised by the Department for Education, which celebrates the success of high performing Year 9 students. The aim is to raise aspirations and to provide students with the opportunity to visit and experience life at University.
Corin commented: “Filled with a multitude of interesting degree related activities, the Dux Award visit to Newcastle was a pleasant day out to revise career choices. This opportunity was one that helped broaden our minds to the alternatives we may have for further education routes. With a morning of ‘Campus Monopoly’, a selection of numerous tasks that the undergraduates performed within their courses, such as a Dental Hygienist Clinic molar filler routine, Bi-Lingual Poetry, Stereo Visual 3-D Technology Sessions and several other fascinating courses, we were immersed in a variety of choices that we may wish to choose. I found the day very interesting and hope to attend Newcastle University to pursue a career in Medicine”.
