Gala Durham will be going on tour this summer with a family performance to enchant audiences across County Durham.
The Durham City theatre, owned by Durham County Council, will be bringing popular family show Billy Shakes: Wonder Boy! to parks and outdoor spaces across the county throughout August.
Produced by theatre company Wrongsemble, the tour will launch with performances at this year’s Seaham Food Festival on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August.
The show will then visit Town Park in Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday 10 August; Glenholme Park in Crook on Wednesday 11 August; Blackhill and Consett Park on Thursday 12 August; Hardwick Park on Friday 13 August before culminating at Wharton Park in Durham City on Saturday 14 August.
An exciting production for children aged four and upwards and their grown-ups, Billy Shakes: Wonder Boy! is bursting with live music and fun and tells the tale of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest storytellers of all time.
Made especially for the county’s audiences, the interactive fun-filled show embraces the joy of storytelling and the untold tales that live within everyone.
All performances are free with no booking or tickets required, and performances will be British Sign Language interpreted to ensure that everyone can enjoy the show.
Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “We are excited to bring such an excellent production to communities across the county for all audiences to enjoy.
“By bringing this production to local outdoor spaces, so many more people will be able to access and enjoy the magic of live theatre performances for free.”
The tour has been made possible by funding received from Arts Council England.
