Horndale Residents Association welcomed a speaker from the Durham Food Bank to our April meeting to speak about the very important work they do in providing food for the most vulnerable of our society. We wish to set up a drop off point for much needed food and toiletries at our meetings to supply the Bank to help those in need.
Our guest speaker for May will be Joanne Dunn, Financial Wellbeing Manager for Livin Social Housing who will talk about the new welfare reforms affecting many people. She will also explain how Livin is helping people through the process and how it will impact on their work.
We will have guest speakers throughout the year from various groups and organisations and if you know anyone who would like to speak or if you want a speaker on a specific topic just ask and we will try to help.
Our preparations for the Anti Loan Shark week towards the end of May are coming together. Unfortunately as hard times get worse the Food Bank will be needed more and Loan Sharks will increase, to prey on society.
Please come along to your meetings and help us make a difference. Meetings are held at the Evangical Church Ladybower on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. It is very relaxed and everybody is welcome so long as they come with a smile.
Representatives from the Police, Councillors, Street & Town Wardens, Livin and Gallifordtry and other organisations attend the meetings to assist in making your communities a better place to live.
