School Aycliffe’s Scarlet Dunn took another podium at Teesside Autodrome last weekend in round 4 of the Owner Driver Sprint Bambino championship – and moved up to 2nd in the championship!
On Saturday’s Free Practice sessions, Scarlet showed great pace by setting close-to-lap-record times as she lapped round the circuit setting her best ever times and only 2 tenths away from a sub-1 minute lap time.
Harrison made great progress!
Scarlet’s younger brother Harrison had a watershed moment too on the Saturday by setting his best times around the West training circuit and for the first time graduated to the main National circuit. He drove very sensibly, without any spins and took seconds off his lap times in every session.

“We’re so proud of how he is coming on now”, said Dad Anthony, “if he keeps going at this rate, he’ll be competing soon!”.
Onto Sundays competitive event and Scarlet started the day well by qualifying in 3rd position in very wet conditions. She then finished 3rd in heat 1, 4th in heat 2 and 3rd in heat 3, but it was becoming evident as the track dried that that there was a problem with her kart as she struggled to match the pace of the leaders or get close to her own pace she had set on Saturday. However, she kept her head down and didn’t complain and finished 3rd in the final.
“Scarlet was an absolute star at the weekend – she was upset not to be faster on Sunday but understood the difficulties and did her absolute best” said Mam Amanda.
This result now leaves her 2nd in the Teesside Owner Driver Sprint Bambino Championship standings.
