Dear Sir,
Please could you advise readers that the sounding of a car horn is for emergencies only, and NOT to to say ‘I’m here’, or ‘bye’. Not only is it illegal to sound your car horn between the hours of 11.30pm and 7am in a non-emergency situation, but remember also that not all people keep the same hours as yourselves, so 4pm may be the middle of your neighbours’ sleeping time. And don’t forget that you may also be waking sleeping babies, causing great upset to already stressed, possibly briefly relieved, young families.
So if you are being picked up by someone, and each time they insist on sounding their horn, please ask them, for your neighbour’s sake to stop the noise pollution. Many thanks. ‘Slightly sleepier than I should be’’, Newton Aycliffe. (The law: A horn should not be sounded when stationary on a road at anytime, other than at times of danger due to another vehicle on or near the road. A horn should not be used on a moving vehicle on a restricted road (basically a road that has street lights and a 30mph limit) between the times of 11.30pm and 700am)
