This year’s Great Aycliffe Show takes place on Saturday and Sunday, 25 and 26 August on the Showfield on School Aycliffe Lane, Newton Aycliffe, and will feature a wide range of showfield entertainment, in addition to live performances in the Playhouse Marquee and Arena. Organised by Great Aycliffe Town Council, entry is free, with ample car parking available at £1 per vehicle.
Action and excitement will be available on the showfield, with something for the whole family. Water Walkers may not yet have made it into the Olympics, but these large plastic globes which allow users to run, roll, flip and spin on water, but without getting wet – will be a main FREE attraction for young people. Younger children will enjoy the large inflatable play equipment plus Punch and Judy Show and FREE face painting. Of course, if you prefer the atmosphere and excitement of fairground rides, these will also be on offer, as will quad bikes.
Teams from Durham County and Darlington Fire and Rescue stations will compete against each other in specially staged ‘incidents’ demonstrating how they cut casualties out of crashed vehicles. The scene of a road traffic collision, complete with a trapped live casualty, will be created, requiring a full ‘rescue’. The demonstrations will take place throughout Saturday and Sunday.
A variety of trade, fundraising and craft stands, inside and outside, will showcase everything from wood carving and jewellery to beekeeping, fishing and new cars.
The Playhouse Marquee will feature a programme of live entertainment throughout the weekend. Members of Aycliffe dance schools always receive enthusiastic support for their performances. In addition, there will be Karate and BMX demonstrations and local singer Charlotte Altringham will be entertaining the audience. On Sunday, comedian and magician Gary Dunn will be performing and for a hint of nostalgia, top band Reflex 80s will be taking audiences back to the hit songs of the 1980s.
Finally, for the motor enthusiast, don’t miss the Vintage Vehicle Rally.
