I could not believe the blatant lies I read in a leaflet saying how good our county councillors are. One of the candidates, Jim Atkinson, standing in Aycliffe East Ward has never been a County Councillor and has only been on the Town Council just over four years. Many good things have been achieved, and have been, in the past, through the Councillor’s neighbourhood initiative fund.
If the public believe the claims about their work in the East Ward – where were these so called hard working councillors when they closed the care homes, post office and when not supporting nurses and teaching assistants, or when councillors voted for pay cuts? Over the past 30 years I have worked alongside Labour councillors to improve the area we represent. My hope is that prospective County Councillors tell the truth in their next leaflet especially the time they have been involved in local politics and the length of time they have been a councillor.
