Love was in the air at Rose Lodge Care home as a happy couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise party organised by family members and staff at the home. It was a day to remember for Ken and Audrey Pratt as family and staff surprised the couple with a party to mark their amazing milestone. A lounge at Rose Lodge, where Mrs Pratt now lives, was turned into a party room featuring diamond anniversary-themed decorations, a food and drinks buffet and karaoke sing-along for their visiting loved ones. The happy couple celebrated, surrounded by cards, gifts and flowers from friends and family. Ken and Audrey Pratt met in 1954 when they both worked for the same Newton Aycliffe-based engineering company, Ken as an apprentice and Audrey as a secretary. Love blossomed between the pair and they went on to marry in 1956 in West Cornforth, before moving to Newton Aycliffe where they raised their four children and have since welcomed 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren into the family. In 60 years of marriage the couple have only ever spent 2 years apart when Ken worked in the RAF. The pair said that the secret to a long and happy marriage is doing everything you can for each other. Rose Lodge Home Manager Nicola Wheatley Said: “Ken and Audrey are such a wonderful couple and we were so pleased that we could make their special day a memorable one. It was lovely to see them enjoying their day.”
