By the time most people read this, we’ll know for sure if Darlington are one game away from promotion or another season in the Evostik North. Our league season ended on a high with a very youthful team running out 3-1 winners against New Mills.
Now to the playoffs. The playoffs and Darlington have never quite gone according to plan. Defeats to Plymouth and Peterborough at Wembley and Rochdale and Ramsbottom in the semi finals have left us fans nervous of these one off games.
But this poor run must end some day, mustn’t it? Due to deadlines we don’t know if its to be Spennymoor or Darlington that Bamber Bridge will be facing in Saturday’s final.
We do know that Wednesday night’s all ticket game was a capacity crowd for Heritage Park with both teams selling out their ticket allocation by Monday morning, such was the appeal of this tie. Whatever the result and whoever is playing the Brig on Saturday I’m quite pleased with this campaign and wish Spennymoor all the very best next season.
Off the pitch, work is due to begin at Blackwell Meadows later this month. Watching the ground develop over the next few months will make this football free summer go that little bit quicker.
On a personal note it was pleasing for me that on Saturday there were several people who didn’t attend the supporters club meeting asking how it went. Word seems to be getting around. We have several quotes from different bus companies with regard to supporter travel.
These will be discussed with the group at the next meeting, on May 13th, and details will be known after then. If anyone wishes to be involved in the group, or knows someone who might be able to use the supporters bus service then please email us at dfcaycliffefans@outlook.com.
