Julie Loscombe, Senior Housekeeper at HC-One’s Defoe Court Care Home in Newton Aycliffe, won the Care Housekeeper category at the prestigious 22nd National Care Awards 2020, held at a virtual award ceremony on Wednesday 25th November 2020.
Julie was nominated for the Care Housekeeper Award by Defoe Court’s Home Manager, Sarah Todd, after showing great leadership skills during the coronavirus pandemic.
Julie realised that Residents who were shielding could provide an extra challenge, so she worked with them to identify their issues and, where they wanted to, she supported them to safely do their own housekeeping.
The judges of this category, Beverley McLoughlin from Ontex Healthcare and Jon Chapman from Pinders, chose Julie as the winner because as well as taking ownership of infection-control measures, working tirelessly to ensure Colleague and Resident safety, she has also helped other departments and arranged a variety of lockdown entertainment.
