We regret to record the death of Eric White of Aycliffe Village who died at the age of 92 on 5th January 2015.
Eric was elected to Aycliffe Parish Council in May 1967 and was elected Mayor of Great Aycliffe in 1982.
He retired from local government in 1995 and became an Honorary Freeman on the 17th May in the same year. Eric also served on the former Darlington Rural District Council and Sedgefield Borough Council.
Councillor White has the distinction of being the longest serving member on Great Aycliffe Town Council He was also a former Magistrate.
Councillor Arun Chandran said: “Eric was a great personal friend, a man of great integrity and ability with a wicked sense of humour. He served the people of Aycliffe Village and Great Aycliffe with distinction and dedication. I worked with him very closely for 13 years to get things done, even though we were politically opposed.”
Fellow Councillor Bill Blenkinsopp said Eric was a hard working Councillor and well respected in Aycliffe Village.
The Funeral will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, Aycliffe Village on Tuesday 27th January at 12.30pm followed by private interment at the graveside with only family present. Only family flowers are requested.
