Everyone at Greenfield Community College was very saddened to hear of the death last weekend of former headteacher David Tate.
Dave was a well-respected and much-loved headteacher, a real gentleman in the true sense of the word. During his 23 years, first as deputy-head, and then as headteacher, he established Greenfield as a school which cares passionately for all young people and their families and as such, he touched the lives of so many in Newton Aycliffe. Colleagues who worked alongside him remember his compassion and determination when it came to doing the best for every member of the Greenfield community and he led two successful campaigns to keep the school open.
Since retiring in 2000, Dave continued to follow developments at Greenfield and to celebrate successes. He will be much missed by his former colleagues and pupils. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Lesley and family.
