Another season, another second place finish, so another attempt to win promotion via the lottery of the play-offs. Successive draws at Lancaster and Warrington meant that the best Darlington can achieve is to be runners up behind Salford, congratulations to them on securing promotion. We now have a local derby against Spennymoor Town in the play-off semi final, the winner will play either Bamber Bridge or Northwich Victoria. The higher placed team gets home advantage for the game so there’s guaranteed to be a bumper crowd when Spennymoor come to Heritage Park next week. This game should be a good advert for non league football between two very good County Durham based teams. Whatever the outcome of these play-offs might be I’ve enjoyed this season. There’s been highs and lows but, importantly, we are going back to Darlington next season. Our last league home game is on Saturday against New Mills, kick off 3pm.
The Aycliffe branch of the Darlington FC supporters club meeting was held last week and it was something of a success! Those that attended were full of enthusiasm and very supportive of an Aycliffe based fans group and what it could achieve. There were lots of ideas that would benefit the Club but until these are formalised we won’t release any details. The main topic raised was transport to both home and away games for when we move back to Darlington. We are currently looking into different coach companies to get the best price possible but if anyone can help then please email me at dfcaycliffefans@outlook.com or follow us on twitter @dfcaycliffefans.
