Both senior teams had their games completely washed out by the weather on Saturday afternoon so it was left to the junior teams to take centre stage and the club’s u11’s didn’t disappoint as they had a comfortable 84 run victory at home to Darlington RA in the NYACC Cup. Captain Will Dearden was again on top form taking four wickets for just two runs and then following that up with an unbeaten 14 in the Aycliffe Innings. Ollie Paylor also batted well for Aycliffe, top scoring with 17 runs and Jamie Evans chipped in with ten runs.
The club’s u12’s also had a superb victory away at Redcar by 153 runs in the NYACC league. Captain Thomas Dearden top scored for Aycliffe with an unbeaten 23 and there were other good contributions from Dan Heaton (16 not out) and Harry Palmer (8 not out). There was some outstanding performances with the ball when Aycliffe took to the field with Will Dearden taking four wickets for just one run, Harrison Pearson took four wickets for five runs and Alfie Spensley finished with two wickets for one run. Special mention must also go to man of the match Adam Shaw (sponsored by Karen and Derek Wood), who had a cracking game behind the stumps and capped his performance with a terrific catch.
The u17’s were well beaten by 138 runs away at highly fancied Richmond in the NYSD Junior league. The home side elected to bat first and scored an impregnable 173 for 4 from their 20 overs. In reply Aycliffe were skittled for only 35 runs after 16 overs with 13 year old opening batsman Leo Mercy the only player emerging with credit when he top scored with 10 runs.
