Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, played well to beat Norton 1st team at home by five wickets in the 2nd division of the NYSD. Electing to bat first the visitors were restricted to 139 for 9 in their 50 overs thanks to some good bowling from Michael Howe (4 for 32) and Luke Telford (3 for 21). In reply, a superb unbeaten 58 from 72 balls faced by Adam Randall (sponsored by DTS Joinery) was the mainstay of the Aycliffe reply and with Chris Palmer chipping in with 20 runs, the home side reached their winning target after 33.5 overs.
The 2nd team had a thrilling three wicket win away at Blackhall 2nd team in the 4th division of the NYSD. Electing to bat first, the home side were dismissed for just 120 from 30.1 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from 14 year olds Matty Greaves (4 for 8) and David Robinson (3 for 25). In reply, Joe Haines (21 runs), Dan Craggs (18 runs) and Ryan Patrick (12 runs) got Aycliffe off to a flying start and looked well set on 58 for 3. However, a mid order collapse had Aycliffe in trouble on 92 for 7, but an unbroken 8th wicket partnership of 29 from George Slatcher (31 not out) and Matty Greaves (sponsored by Brittania Fire), who also batted brilliantly scoring 8 not out, helped see their side to a tense victory after 26.3 overs.
The first team had an excellent eight wicket victory away at Wolviston 1sts in the quarter final of the Brunton cup. Batting first the homeside were restricted to 96 for 8 in their 20 overs with captain Luke Telford the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 22. In reply Aycliffe passed their winning target after 16.1 overs thanks to a match winning unbroken 3rd wicket partnership of 83 from Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood), who top scored with 56 not out and Adam Gittins (27 not out).
Our u15’s played well but were still beaten by 61 runs at home to Richmond. The visitors scored an impressive 147 for 1 in their 20 overs and Aycliffe reached a respectable 86 for 6 in their reply thanks to good innings from David Robinson (24 runs) and Leo Mercy (22 runs).
The club’s u13’s team had a terrific 46 run victory at home to Barnard Castle in the NYACC League. Asked to bat first Aycliffe scored an excellent 120 for 6 in their 20 overs thanks to good innings from Harrison Pearson (26 runs), Will Dearden (19 runs) and Brandon Grant (14 runs). In reply the visitors were restricted to 74 for 7 with Joe Ingman the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers with two wickets.
